The 2020 Kia Optima is entering its fifth model year and gets a suite of new standard technology features and some model updates throughout.
The renderings of its Korean market counterpart, the K5, was unveiled earlier this week in Seoul.
What’s new in the 2020 Kia Optima?
The 2020 Kia Optima remains largely the same as the 2019 version and gets a few updates to trims. Back in 2019, Kia gave the Optima a light refresh that included adding features like leather seating on the SX line, additional advanced driver assistance aids, and an updated UVO infotainment system.
On the EX and SX trims, the 2020 Optima gets standard smartphone wireless charging. On LX and S trims, the Optima gets enhanced Forward Collision-Avoidance-Assistance which includes pedestrian detection. The EX Premium trim, which was formerly only an option package, is now a separate trim altogether, increasing the trim line up to six varieties over last year’s four.
All engine offerings are the same on the 2020 Kia Optima. The LX and S trims get Kia’s standard 2.4-liter inline-4 engine and automatic transmission. The S model with a panoramic roof is broken out as a separate trim for 2020. The EX and EX Premium (which is now a separate trim) gets the turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-4 engine while the top of the line SX gets the same turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 as the 2019 Optima.
The Optima Hybrid and plug-in hybrid come with standard driver assists for 2020, as well.
Pricing also changes for 2020. More on that below.
