SEOUL// – Kia Motors Corp., an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, has unveiled renderings of its all-new K5 sedan ahead of its domestic launch in December.
The 2020 model of the K5, which is marketed under the Optima nameplate internationally, will have a completely new interior and exterior.
The upgraded K5 midsize sedan comes with a wider “tiger face” grille and a strong bumper incorporating large air intake vents and multibeam LED headlamps. It also has a bold character line that runs up along the sides that Kia claims exudes both power and elegance.
At the rear, the side character line trails into the back and merges with the rear lamp graphics. The roof has a bit of a fastback look, ending at the trunk lid.
Other noticeable changes are the door mirror caps positioned lower on the front doors and a front quarter glass you won’t find on the current Optima.
To give the sensation of a coupe silhouette, Kia’s designers have applied a thick chrome/metallic bar at the base of the A-pillar that continues above the greenhouse before gradually coming down at the rear pillar.
The current car also has it, but its replacement will extend the piece of trim on the trunk lid at the base of the rear window.
Kia didn’t provide further details for the third-generation model.
